Creative editorial house Crew Cuts, with shops in New York, San Francisco and Santa Monica, has expanded the latter operation with the addition of editor Bob Jenkis and senior producer Megan Dahlman. Jenkis and Dahlman join editor David Lee and consultant/strategist Valerie Petrusson at Crew Cuts/Santa Monica. Nationally, Crew Cuts features a roster of 14 editors, including company founders Sherri Margulies, Clayton Hemmert and Chuck Willis.
Prior to joining Crew Cuts, Jenkis was an editor at Santa Monica-based Swietlik. While there, he cut hundreds of national commercials, including Rollerblade’s "Relay," which earned a Gold Clio for editing, and Jeep’s "Frisbee," a Cannes Bronze Lion-winning spot. He also cut the music video promoting Men in Black, a clip that received an MTV Award in 1997 as best video from a movie.
Jenkis made his foray into the industry as a music video editor in the late ’70s (prior even to MTV’s launch), working with such top artists as Styx, ELO, Donna Summer, Fleetwood Mac and Tom Petty – a natural beginning for a film enthusiast who was trained in classical piano. In ’81, Jenkis applied his talents to the Holocaust documentary Genocide, for the Simon Wiesenthal Center. It was honored with a best feature documentary Oscar in ’82.
Eager to explore editing in a number of areas, Jenkis then enjoyed a successful tenure as a freelance editor for independent features and trailers. In ’86, the year Hollywood-based Propaganda Films (now bicoastal/ international) was founded, Jenkis was invited to establish the company’s in-house editorial department. At Propaganda, he contributed his creative touch to music videos for a variety of artists, including Janet Jackson, Madonna, Stevie Wonder, Sting, David Bowie and En Vogue.
In ’90, Jenkis worked with director David Lynch on the cult classic TV series Twin Peaks. The next year, Jenkis’ editing garnered an MTV Award nomination on the strength of Chris Isaak’s "Wicked Game," directed by Herb Ritts who is now partnered in Ritts/Hayden, Los Angeles. Jenkis also won an Emmy for Julie Andrews’ "Sound of Christmas" special.
In ’94, after working on a variety of projects, including Michael Jackson’s HBO concert from Bucharest, Jenkis won his first Gold Clio for cutting Start Card’s "Grandfather." He has gone on to collaborate with such noted commercial directors as David Kellogg, Dominic Sena, David Fincher, Zack Snyder and Bob Gordon.
Dahlman oversees project bidding and client relations in her new capacity as senior producer at Crew Cuts. In keeping with the company’s working methodology, Dahlman is also available to produce projects in the company’s San Francisco and New York offices. Dahlman formerly served as a visual effects producer for two years at Post Logic, Hollywood. Prior to that, she was a producer at editorial house Jigsaw, also in Santa Monica.
