Award-winning filmmaking trio Sangre has signed with production company Easy Mondays for exclusive U.S. representation in the branded space. Easy Mondays becomes the first U.S. roost for Sangre, a multidisciplinary, independent and collaborative directing collective. The Peruvian trio–comprising Antonio Sarria, Pedro Zamalloa, and Miqy de la Barra–gathers three generations, a quarter-century of combined perspectives and experiences into an ever-evolving book of work for AB InBev, Coca-Cola Co., Modelo Group, and BBVA, among others.
The generational synergy results in standout fare that has a distinct spark, even within categories. Case in point, Sangre’s campaign for Peruvian beer Cusqueรฑa offers two distinct takes on the threads of the past: “Impossible Facts” blends tribal dancing, an urban street scene, and lush tabletop, while “Inkakunaqa Kawsanmi” is literally a museum piece in motion, both timely and timeless, rippling with imagination. Meanwhile, “Never Have I Ever,” for Pilsen, is driven by satirical humor, before making its deeper point with social commentary.
“If there are two things I love in life, it’s films and food, and when I saw Sangre’s work I was instantly hooked!” said Easy Mondays founder/executive producer Asori Soto. “I don’t know if it’s partly because they come from one of the countries with the best culinary traditions in the world, but you can almost smell and taste the food through their filmmaking. I was also beyond impressed with their poetic sense of style, and how they bring heritage into the contemporary world.”
In a joint statement, Sangre–whose moniker symbolizes passion, life and commitment–shared, “We’re thrilled to have Easy Mondays place their trust in our energy and our particular view of things. It’s exciting to have this team by our side, bringing our vision into new markets.”
The Sangre trio has been celebrated locally and internationally, garnering eight Cannes Lions, recognition from The One Show, El Sol de Iberoamerica, and taking home music video awards at the Golden Gate International Film Festival. Short films from the directors have been honored at the Los Angeles Film Awards and New York Film Awards, among others.
“Film can take you to new places and experiences that you can learn from, it’s similar to a shamanic ceremony,” Sangre concluded. “Our mentors inspired us with this particular way of seeing this profession in and out the set. We seek to renew experiences with each project while having a great time creating visual and narrative worlds together.”
In addition to Easy Mondays in the U.S., Sangre is represented by The Maestros in Mexico, Chile and Colombia, and Central Content in Brazil.
