Composer Brian Banks, founder of music and sound design company Ear to Ear and audio postproduction company AudioBanks, has now formed an interactive audio division: Ear to Ear Interactive. All three entities are housed in the same Santa Monica complex.
Banks has named Christie Cash, executive producer of AudioBanks, to also oversee the launch and development of Ear to Ear Interactive. Cash has already brought on board Chip Mullaney, a former freelance sound designer who also specializes in audio technology and software design.
Ear to Ear Interactive creates custom music, sound design and voiceover for interactive content providers, spanning such areas as interactive television (ITV), video games, the Web, and advertising. "Ear to Ear Interactive is a natural extension of Ear to Ear, supplying quality music and sound design to the interactive community using the latest audio and Web technology," related Banks. "Chip [Mullaney] brings an exciting combination of creative and technical experience for the interactive market. He has the talent to ensure that we continue to push the boundaries of music and sound into new mediums."
Commercial clients will be able to tap into the services and capabilities of Ear to Ear Interactive. The new division claims to have a complex authoring and re-mastering process that synchronizes interactive audio-sound, music and voice-with video streaming content. Ear to Ear Interactive’s process is billed as being compatible with Java, XML, WebTv, QuickTime and interactive digital set-top boxes such as those on the Liberate Technologies platform.
"With strategic partners like Macromedia, QuickTime, Beatnik, and Liberate, our mission is to transform the often-silent world of the Internet into a rich media experience," said Banks. "The technology is in place, strategic alliances have been made, and phase one of interactive television has nearly begun."
By providing interactive audio compositions as part of the interface, not as part of the video stream, Ear to Ear Interactive contends it can free more video capacity for companies that stream entertainment. Ear to Ear Interactive also intends to offer advertisers and filmmakers alternate music and dialogue tracks (i.e.-Spanish, German, Japanese) for the Web and other interactive applications, thereby extending the global reach of projects.
