Alldayeveryday has joined forces with director Nelson Cabrera for exclusive global representation for both multicultural and general market advertising. Cabrera is a 10-time Cannes Lion winner with 24 Shortlists in 18 years, along with accolades from LIA, Clios, ANDYs and NYFF.
Fluent in Spanish and English (along with some basic Mandarin), Cabrera has filmed projects around the world for agencies Crispin Porter+Bogusky, DDB, WeBlievers, Grey, Energy BBDO, JWT, Orci, Merkley, Cole Weber, the Community, Lopez Negrete, Zubi, Alma, BBH Shanghai and BBDO South China for brands VW, Adidas, Honda, Walmart, Wrigley, Bayer, Foxtel, Ford, Volvo and Candy Crush, among others.
Cabrera studied art and filmmaking at SVA and NYU. He began his career as a DGA assistant director on the feature side and TV commercials working for some major directors, absorbing the atmosphere of creative collaboration before assuming the role of director earning a place in SHOOT's 2004 2nd Annual New Directors Showcase. At that time, he had recently signed with the venerable HKM Productions.
In 2011, after directing via a number of production houses out of Los Angeles, Cabrera opened his own production company Cherry Sundae. In addition to his exceptional and artful eye, Nelson is known for his ability to find the right “groove” on set with actors, often for the goal of that perfect comedic delivery.
The signing with Alldayeveryday follows a period in which the director turned his attention and focus to his other creative inspiration: wildlife and large format landscape photography. As a photographer/painter he holds a residency at Studio18 in South Florida, which is the site of an upcoming show on April 1. He is also an impassioned plein air painter.
“Nelson’s is a powerhouse talent whose body of work is impressive, bold, and authentically speaks to audiences in a variety of markets,” said Alldayeveryday co-founder Michael Karbelnikoff. “He is someone who has dedicated his life to the art and craft of cinema, and this bold passion drives everything he does. We are excited to work together.”
Cabrera now reunites with Karbelnikoff. They were together earlier at the aforementioned HKM where Karbelnikoff was a co-founder.
“I have known Michael for many years and when we reconnected I had just had this incredible time away to work on the artist residency,” Cabrera explained. “Once we started talking, I felt the pull to reconnect with filmmaking and to team up with Michael and Allday. I love photography and painting but directing is my life.”
Eleanor Adds Director Candice Vernon To Its Roster For Spots and Branded Content
Director Candice Vernon has joined production house Eleanor for U.S. representation spanning commercials and branded content. She has already wrapped several jobs at Eleanor, which waited to announce her until they had a body of work together.
Via Eleanor, Vernon made history as the first Black director on a Febreze commercial. The โSmall Spacesโ campaign marks a major departure from Febrezeโs typical blue-and-white world. The home of the โRevolving Doorโ commercial is a beautiful array of bold sunset hues, African prints, and African art.
Vernon said, โI asked myself, what feels right to me? What feels new? I wanted to bring an essence of not just Black Americans but the full diaspora. I wanted to make a statement that weโre not a monolith.โ
Following the success of the โSmall Spacesโ campaign, Febreze brought Vernon back for a comedy-infused trifecta exploring the hilarious situations that call for an air freshening hero.
Febreze Brand VP Angelica Matthews said, โAbout two years ago, we realized the consumers that were the most loyal to Febreze were the African American consumers. And the more we learned, the more we realized the richness that we were really missing. So we said we have to go beyond just Black casting, we need to get Black directors that truly understand the culture that truly understand how to bring authentic performances out on screen. We really looked around the industry and noticed thereโs actually a shortage of African American directors who have experience doing commercials. When we all saw Candiceโs reel, we could all tell the passion for the craft, passion for really trying to help us from where we are to where weโre trying to go.โ
