Production house We Fly Coach has signed 2017 Grand Clio-winning director Marcus Perry for spots and branded content globally. This marks the first commercial representation for Perry whose prior branded work was done on a freelance basis.
Among his notable projects is a film–which won a Grand Clio at this year’s Clio Entertainment Awards as well as a 2017 Golden Trailer honor–promoting the lauded Denis Villeneuve-directed feature Arrival. Perry’s piece reinforces an Arrival theme–the importance of communication–by bringing together people who speak different languages yet still somehow manage to connect.
Director, writer and producer Perry has spent over a decade crafting high-end commercials, promos, experiential content, and genre projects for top motion picture studios, television networks, agencies and brands. Bringing a cinematic approach, he has helmed work for such clients as Paramount Pictures, 20th Century Fox, Warner Bros., Walt Disney Studios, Universal Studios, Sony Pictures Entertainment, A&E Network, McDonald’s and Zappos. Perry’s work ranges from comedy to action, and he’s directed A-list talent ranging from Dwayne Johnson to Will Ferrell.
Perry related, “I’ve been fortunate to work in film for a long time, creating content to support some of the biggest blockbusters out there. I love bringing that big screen approach to commercials, and creating stories for brands that have a really human and universal appeal. We Fly Coach approaches content the same way I do. In this changing industry, you have to stay lean, but still deliver polished results. They embrace creative challenges…And I love their work.”
In addition to advertising, Perry has written films for entertainment studios. He is also the creator of the Image Comics series “Descendant,” and “Albert Einstein: Time Mason” for Action Lab Comics.
Elizabeth Benson, We Fly Coach partner/EP, said of Perry, “He really thinks as a viral content creator, and that’s exactly the kind of director we love having on our roster.”
Sinners and Saints Adds Apple Pie To Its Branded Menu
Bicoastal Sinners and Saints--the multidisciplinary studio overseen by managing director/executive producer Heather Heller, and partners/EPs Yann Henric and Thomas Carroll--has added Apple Pie Tabletop to its roster for branded content. Known for its food and beverage content creation, Apple Pie comprises the husband-and-wife team of director/DP Gene Dubin and director/art director Alisa Volodina. In addition to representation, the move expands Apple Pie’s production capabilities through the combination of its centrally located full-service studio in New York and a newly established mobile studio in Los Angeles. Apple Pie recently teamed with Sinners and Saints on a Wienerschnitzel project created by Innocean.
“We believe that our dual studio strategy positions us uniquely in the competitive landscape of food and beverage storytelling,” said Heller. “By blending the artistry of the New York studio with the flexibility of our Los Angeles location, we can tailor our productions to meet the unique demands of each project, regardless of geography.”
“Working with Sinners and Saints in the demanding field of tabletop was an absolute pleasure,” shared Apple Pie Tabletop in a joint statement. “Warm welcome, unwavering support and dedication--everything a director can ask for. The entire experience was both enjoyable and rewarding. We will not miss an opportunity to collaborate with them again.”
“The first thing you notice is that Apple Pie has beautiful work,” Heller observed. “Having worked with them, I can say that Gene and Alisa are extremely meticulous and detail-oriented; their combination of talent and agility appeals to agencies and clients.” Also appealing to Heller is Apple Pie Tabletop’s brisk international...
