Moxie Pictures has signed director Kevin Thomas–who splits his time between New York and the U.K.–for representation in the U.S.
Thomas began his career as a creative working at shops including AMV, TBWA, Lowe and M&C Saatchi. After a successful stretch on the agency side, he began directing and went on to garner industry accolades, including Cannes Lions, D&AD and BTA Awards for brands including Sony PlayStation, Virgin, Thorntons and Nike.
In 2000, Thomas and partner Philippa Thomas set up production company Thomas & Thomas Films in London. Thomas & Thomas extended its reach with the launch of a NY office in 2006. Thomas & Thomas produced award-winning work for numerous clients including Adidas, Virgin, American Express, BMW and five consecutive campaigns for Apple.
In 2004 the Thomas-directed Citibank spot “Outfit” for Fallon Minneapolis won the primetime commercial Emmy Award. “Outfit” was part of a Citibank “ID Lip Synch” campaign in which each spot featured a victim of identity theft speaking in the voice of the thief. In “Outfit,” for example, a middle-aged man sits in his wood-paneled den, drinking a can of beer while watching TV. In a valley-girl voice, “he” gloats about having recently purchased a leather bustier, and scoffs at the $1,500 price tag. After all, what’s $1,500 when it’s someone else’s money being spent? Citibank is then touted as the financial institution that helps protect its customers against identity theft.
Moxie CEO/co-owner Robby Fernandez said, “I have known Kevin for 20-plus years and have always been an admirer of his work.”
Thomas, the recipient of the Charles Saatchi award for his contribution to the industry, also has to his credit True Love (Once Removed) which won best short film at the Palm Springs fest. It was also selected for Raindance and the L.A. Short Film Festival, qualifying for Oscar consideration.
Thomas won a D&AD pencil and an AICP award for The Wayback, a critically acclaimed VR film series designed for those living with dementia. In the fall of 2022 he directed a 12-part film series for the Booker Prize, which features six well-known performers reading and performing two excerpts from one of the six shortlisted books.
Thomas continues to be repped for commercials and branded content in the U.K. by production house Merman.
