Production company Ruffian has added director Eno Freedman Brodmann (aka Eno) to its roster for U.S. representation. Following his short film The Pitch, a satirical look at the agony of pitching a brand collaboration between vegan chicken nuggets and Bluetooth speakers, Eno himself will now be running the commercial pitching gauntlet.
As writer/director of The Pitch, Eno’s comedic timing and wit turn an incisive mirror to the advertising industry, probing deep questions about the existing process and the potential for creative bankruptcy. We follow actress and indie rocker Lourdes Hernandez as she shapeshifts to accommodate ever more outlandish vignettes at an increasingly frenetic pace. The film transitions seamlessly through myriad genres, visual approaches and emotional tones.
“I wanted to make a film that explored where the jobs that died after so much creativity had been lavished on them,” said Eno, “and I also wanted to give a nod to all of the sweat equity that evaporates with the job.”
Originally hailing from New York City, Eno is a commercial and music video director, designer, and classically trained musician based in Los Angeles. After graduating from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, Eno started his career by working with A-list directors and development teams at Wanda, SMUGGLER, Epoch, and Iconoclast. He then transitioned to the in-house creative associate at production company PRETTYBIRD.
Painted in rich colors, Eno’s filmic worlds are designed to make the audience laugh and simultaneously warm their hearts. His filmmaking voice draws inspiration from the work of Pedro Almodóvar, Charlie Kaufman, George Carlin, and Matthew Frost, gravitating towards mindful comedy and tasteful satire.
As a director, Eno has helmed campaign films for Samsung, Soulection, Tidal, Ultra Records, L’Imperatrice, Cherokee and Anne et Valentin. All these projects were independently produced (except for Samsung which was done via Hummingbird Content). As a side pursuit, his training and passion for sound has garnered him opportunities to curate music for LVMH, Soho House, Art Basel Miami, and Norwood Arts, and others.
“There’s an energy at Ruffian that speaks to a different, cutting-edge approach to commercial production,” said Eno who’s enthused over becoming “a part of this immensely creative culture.”
“Eno is an exciting young talent,” said Robert Herman, founder/EP at Ruffian. “His finely attuned sense of comedy and ability to weave a captivating, memorable story hint at the brilliance that is soon to follow.”
