NEW YORK-Bicoastal/international @radical.media has signed director Eden Diebel, who prefers to go by the single moniker Eden, for global representation. Eden was formerly represented internationally by bicoastal/international The Artists Company.
Since joining The Artists Company three years ago, Eden has directed several award-winning spots for the European market. This year he won a Bronze Lion at Cannes for helming a France Telecom spot entitled "Novel" through CLM BBDO, Paris. He also won a ’99 Cresta Award for the Volkswagen Lupo spot "Big and Small" via DDB GmbH, Dusseldorf, Germany. In ’97, Eden was named to Saatchi & Saatchi’s New Directors Showcase in Cannes.
While enjoying much success in Europe, Eden has been waiting patiently to tap into the American market. "The global side has always been very important to me and still is, but I didn’t want to just become a European-based director without doing any work in the States," related Eden.
A native of the U.K., Eden started his career in London in the mid-’80s as an editor cutting movie trailers. In ’86, he opened his own editing/production company called True Pictures (now defunct), where he did editing as well as publicity and promotions for feature films. During that time, Eden also helmed some music videos which caught the eye of Limelight, London, where he was signed as a director in ’88.
After three years at Limelight, first in London and then in Los Angeles (Limelight’s stateside operation shuttered in ’94), Eden left to start building his commercial reel. He remained in L.A. for another year to freelance direct music videos, then returned to London in ’93 to cut film trailers while he worked on his spec spots.
The Artists Company became interested in Eden in ’95 after seeing a spec spot he directed for Aiwa Sound called "Headspace," and offered him the opportunity to produce a spec piece for Converse. The Artists Company signed Eden to the company roster in ’96, based on the strength of that work. Just before leaving The Artists Company this year, Eden directed Volkswagen Polo’s "Health Farm" for DDB GmbH, Dusseldorf, Germany, and a campaign for Dutch Rail via J. Walter Thompson, Amsterdam.
