Production company BRF (B-Reel Films) has signed director and writer Danny Sangra for commercials and branded content in the U.S. and U.K.
Best known for his satirical wit, Sangra has collaborated with brands such as Burberry, Samsung, BBC, Carolina Herrera, Elle and Vogue. Most recently, Sangra created films for Mercedes-Benz, Miu Miu & Balenciaga, the latter (Une Incroyable Excuse) taking second position in the top 10 Fashion Films by Business of Fashion in 2015. He’s hoping to take home the winning medal for his latest Miu Miu film- shortlisted in the Fashion & Beauty Short Form category at the upcoming Clio Awards on September 27.
Sangra noted, “Even though many of my clients are based in fashion, I think my fashion films have been successful because they are not just for a fashion audience. My films break away from what was considered the stereotypical fashion film. The use of comedy, satire or surreal narrative draws in a wider audience.”
Prior to joining BRF, Sangra was repped by production house Alldayeveryday.
When Sangra isn’t on set creating, he spends his time making personal short films that act as a place where he can test out new ideas, further pushing the boundaries of creativity. His work has been part of the New York Fashion Film Festival in February 2012 and again in 2013. Sangra’s latest personal short film, entitled Directors’ Cuts: Pro Advice featured in Nowness, displays the tongue-in-cheek approach to his short films on everyday life.
Sangra’s first feature film–Goldbricks in Bloom starring Zosia Mamet (Girls, Mad Men), Jake Hoffman (The Wolf of Wall Street, Ray Donovan), Waris Ahluwalia (The Grand Budapest Hotel, The Darjeeling Limited) and Leo Fitzpatrick (The Drowning, Kids, The Wire)–rolled out in 2016 to positive reviews.
“Danny’s a truly modern filmmaker, constantly experimenting with his way of telling stories without being tied to any one platform,” said Pelle Nilsson, founder and CEO of BRF. “He’s a writer, illustrator, artist and director–in short, a creative force.”
