Jordan Peele scored a pair of DGA Award nominations on the strength of Get Out–Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Feature Film as well as Outstanding Directorial Achievement of a First-Time Feature Film Director for 2017.
Joining Peele in the former category for the Guild’s coveted Feature Film Award are: Guillermo del Toro for The Shape of Water; Greta Gerwig for Lady Bird; Martin McDonagh for Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri; and Christopher Nolan for Dunkirk.
All except for Nolan are first-time nominees. Dunkirk marks the fourth career nomination for Nolan who was previously nominated for Inception in 2010, for The Dark Knight in 2008, and for Memento in 2001.
“2018 marks the 70th anniversary of the DGA Awards, and filmmaking has reached new heights with each passing year. These nominees embody the excellence that comes to life when unique vision, craft and skill come together in pursuit of masterful storytelling,” said Thomas Schlamme, DGA president. “Being nominated by their peers is what makes this award especially meaningful for directors, and I congratulate all of the nominees for their outstanding work.”
First-Time Filmmakers
Meanwhile Peele’s fellow nominees for the DGA’s First-Time Feature Film Director honor are: Geremy Jasper for Patti Cake$; William Oldroyd for Lady Macbeth; Taylor Sheridan for Wind River; and Aaron Sorkin for Molly’s Game.
Winners will be announced at the 70th Annual DGA Awards on Saturday evening, February 3, 2018, at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, Calif.
