Filmmaker Yann Demange and directing collective Pleix have joined SKUNK for North American representation.
Director Demange brings a talent for narrative detail as well as realistic character portrayals for brands including Mercedes, Grolsch, Haagen-Dazs, Johnson & Johnson and GE. Recent work includes a wry campaign for Grolsch featuring the gravitas of prolific yet everyday characters shot with sweeping cinematic camerawork–big, bold personas that match the spirit of the famed brew.
Pleix arrives with graphic artist and animation skills. Nokia, Orange, Lexus, Duracell, Sony and adidas are featured on the French collective’s reel, as are promos for prolific music acts including “Birds” for Vitalic and “Get Down” for Basement Jaxx. “Chain Reaction” for Mini is their latest. It’s an amazing ride through the ages from 1959 to modern day celebrating the new MINI Cooper, every model designed falling like dominoes until the 2014 Cooper drops before us and zips away.
“Death Penalty” for Amnesty International further illustrates the collective’s mixed-media aptitude. The spot feature four executions depicted as wax statues; firing squad, hanging, decapitation and electrocution melting under the influence of Amnesty’s iconic candle. Poetic, elegant and haunting the influential spot received Cannes Lions Bronze, Grand Prix for Film Craft plus Silver at Eurobest.
The Pleix collective was previously with MJZ stateside. The directorial group continues to be handled in the rest of the world (except France) by Stink. Demange too remains with Stink for his international roost.
Demange has also seen success in British serial television. His BBC series Criminal Justice and cult-classic zombie romp Dead Set both received BAFTA nominations for Best Drama Serial Award and Craft Award for Best Director.
Demange released his first feature film ’71 at the 2014 Berlin Film Festival. The harrowing story follows a British soldier forced to survive on the war-torn streets of Belfast after being accidentally abandoned by his unit.
