BBDO New York, and Wreckless Abandon Studios, East Granby, Conn., have teamed up to bring the characters from Davey and Goliath back to life. Their new spot for Mountain Dew is likely not only to sell the soft drink, but to inspire a resurgence of interest in the classic series.
If you are in your 30s or 40s, you probably have childhood memories of jumping out of bed Sunday mornings and flicking on the TV to catch the latest episode of Davey and Goliath. Produced by Art Clokey (who directed, produced and provided voices for The Gumby Show) and sponsored by the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), Davey and Goliath premiered in 1962. The stop-frame animated series centered on a young boy, Davey, and his big brown dog, Goliath, who was famous for saying, "Oh Davey." In each episode of the hokey, yet endearing, show, Davey would learn an important life lesson.
