THE SPOTS
Two :30s feature Minnesota Timberwolves star Kevin Garnett. In "KG1," Garnett is shown alone at night in a fenced-in court where only two things exist—the basket and the ball, which he holds in his hands. As Styles raps about Garnett’s life, KG is shown in action during a heavy rainfall, while being scrutinized by two policemen. Suddenly a pack of defenders appear, daring the star to make a move. The mass is forced to scatter when KG launches into an attack. Photographers frantically shoot the NBA star as the camera focuses on the And 1 logo, exposing the secret behind Garnett’s athletic performance. The spot ends with Styles asserting, "If you think you’ve got game, then you’re gonna have to learn over." In "The Interrogation," KG calls into question his doubts and weaknesses by grilling himself mercilessly. The athlete sits in a chair at a table in the middle of a room, as he inquires "Why am I here, man?" "Aren’t you the Kid or something?," replies the unidentified interrogator. "The Kid turned into a man," Garnett declares. The examination becomes more intense, more critical as KG’s skills are called into question. "Are you a leader?," asks the interrogator. "A natural born leader," Garnett states. "Still hungry?," is the next query. This riles the basketball star who stands up, bangs the table and declares, "I know you ain’t questioning my hunger!" The inquisition continues until Garnett throws his hands up in frustration and says, "Call it what you want, but call it." The closing shot reveals the identity of the interrogator, who is also Garnett, as he proclaims, "Being the best starts now."
