From those leading a nomad existence to blue blood royalty–that was the wide socioeconomic range reflected in the Critics Choice Awards when it came to the dominant winners in feature film and television, respectively, unveiled during this evening’s (3/7) virtual ceremony.
On the feature score, Nomadland (Searchlight Pictures) led the way by topping four categories: Best Picture, Director and Adapted Screenplay (both for Chloe Zhao) and Cinematography (Joshua James Richards).
On the TV front, The Crown (Netflix) scored four wins–for Best Drama Series, and Actor (Josh O’Connor), Actress (Emma Corrin) and Supporting Actress (Gillian Anderson) in a Drama Series.
Among the other feature winners were Minari (A24) for Best Foreign Language Film and Young Actor (Alan Kim), Palm Springs (Hulu and NEON) for Best Comedy, Promising Young Woman for Best Actress (Carey Mulligan) and Original Screenplay (Emerald Fennell), Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom (Netflix) for Best Actor (Chadwick Boseman), Costume Design (Ann Roth) and Hair & Makeup, and The Trial of the Chicago 7 (Netflix) for Best Acting Ensemble and Editing (Alan Baumgarten). Tying Baumgarten for the editing honor was Mikkel E. G. Nielsen for Sound of Metal (Amazon Studios).
In addition to The Crown, multiple TV winners included Ted Lasso (Apple TV+) for Best Comedy Series, Actor in a Comedy Series (Jason Sudeikis) and Supporting Actress (Hannah Waddingham), Schitt’s Creek (Pop TV) for Best Actress (Catherine O’Hara) and Supporting Actor (Daniel Levy) and The Queen’s Gambit (Netflix) for Best Limited Series and Actress in a Limited Series (Anya Taylor-Joy).
