Jeff Gillette has recently come over to Goodby Silverstein & Partners, San Francisco (GS&P), from Wieden+Kennedy (W+K), Portland, Ore. In his new role, he will lead Frito-Lay brands Tostitos and Cheetos, and co-lead GS&P’s BETA Group.
Margaret Johnson, Goodby partner and executive creative director, said of Gillette, “His ability to challenge teams and produce work that innovates across large, established brands makes him a great asset to GS&P.”
At Wieden+Kennedy, Gillette co-led the Coca-Cola account (including Diet Coke), Travel Portland, LAIKA and Yoplait. He also helped the agency win Coke’s digital and social business. Before his W+K tenure, Gillette helped open and establish Google Creative Lab in New York City and was a writer and VP/associate creative director at Crispin Porter+Bogusky. There he worked on Burger King, Volkswagen, Geek Squad and Coke Zero.
Gillette’s hiring coincides with a growth spurt in GS&P’s creative, design and content-creation departments. Additional hires the agency recently made include Will Knox, a copywriter from Heat whose work on the Madden GIFERATOR for EA Sports won six Gold Lions in 2015; Tana Cieciora, a senior designer who developed the Citi Bike branding while at Publicis New York; Florian Marquardt, a senior art director who recently created the Sports Illustrated “Epic Photoshop Fail” for Snickers; Dan Berenson, a copywriter who has worked for McCann New York, Translation and Havas; Ryan Tovani, an art director who comes from Venables Bell & Partners, where he worked on Audi, Google and PlayStation; Maria Vaquero, a designer who comes from Urban Outfitters; and Andrew Butte, a content creative who is a recent graduate of UCLA, where he made Golden Hour, a film that was screened at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival. Other recent graduates who have joined GS&P are Lorenz Ortiz, a junior designer from San Jose State University; Stephen Aldridge, a content creator from BYU; and Louis Xinran Li and Charles Lee, both art directors from ArtCenter College of Design in Pasadena.
These new hires come on the heels of GS&P winning 13 Cannes Lions and 11 One Show Pencils. Celebrated work included an Oculus Rift experience for the Dalí Museum, the anti-cyberbullying campaign “#I Am a Witness” for the Ad Council, “Doritos Rainbows” for Frito-Lay, “#SquareShakes” for SONIC and “Unacceptable Acceptance Letters” for the creators of the film The Hunting Ground.
