Editorial house Toms Easy Way, Dallas, has added creative editor Roger Gill to its staff. In addition, the shop has changed its name to Easyway Editorial to better reflect the broad group of talent.
According to owner/editor Tom Aberg, the companys new moniker is more reflective of the group of talent that now works at the firm he co-founded in 85 with his wife, CFO Cissy Aberg.
About three to four years ago, [the company] developed into something more substantial, recalled Aberg. Theres a lot of people that contribute to this company and do a lot of things. I just dont think its wise to keep me in the spotlight that much; its become a much bigger office. We certainly want to keep the good reputation and the goodwill weve developed, so it wasnt too much of a name change.
Gill, who was with Post Op, Dallas, for the past two years, has cut several Easyway jobs already including the :30 spot Security Guard for the Texas Rangers via Krauss & Associates, Dallas; and two Ford spots, Tough Guy and Super Crew, via J. Walter Thompson, Denver, that are airing in the northeastern U.S.
Gill started his career six years ago at Dallas-based Video Post & Transfer, where he moved into the editors chair after a year of assisting. He then went to Post Op where his recent credits included Coin Pony for Lone Star Park via The Richards Group, Dallas, in which a coin pony laments his loss of business because its racing season; and three as-of-yet unaired spots for Internet provider Red, also via The Richards Group, which are set to roll out nationally later this year.
Aberg commented, Were looking to get Roger going on a new path, and make a new start for him. I love sharing ideas with other editors in the company and Roger will certainly be good for that.
Gill said that he made the move because, in addition to his desire to take a more hands-on role in jobs and broaden his client base, he assessed Easyway as poised to be the next big post facility in the area. The other places in town have sort of staked their claim, said Gill. I felt that Easyway isnt necessarily seen as being as highly developed as Post Op. I saw it as a dynamic company and to be able to get in on a ground-floor level and help grow the company [was attractive to me].
Gill joins an editorial roster comprised of Aberg, David Louria, Shawn Sterling, Andrew Schnaubelt and assistant Brad Todd. The shop is rounded out by executive post producer Samantha Downes and post producer Mimi Hendrix.
In addition, Easyway recently acquired a Smoke, which will be operated by Sterling, who has served as editor and facility engineer. The company is now building a new online suite to accommodate the Smoke, which is slated to be completed later this spring.
Aberg said, We have made a commitment to the Smoke, a system that is longterm. Shawn has done a lot of Avid online finishing for us, and has also done some creative editorial. We want to put him into the finishing end of our services. Aberg added that they plan to announce the additional services in the next few months.
