Catfish Music, a Chicago-based commercial music/sound design house, has added composer/sound designer/producer Dave Metzger.
Most recently, Metzger has been working on a freelance basis after departing Plug’d Music & Sound Design, a division of production house H-Gun Labs, which he’d joined in 1998. Metzger said he left Plug’d four months ago, following the closure of H-Gun/Plug’d Music & Sound Design’s Chicago production operation, after nearly all the staff relocated to the San Francisco office.
Metzger related that he recently contacted the two Catfish principals, composer/producers Joel Raney and Jeff Boyle. "I just hit it off with these guys," said Metzger. "They have a beautiful space, which we’re going to expand within a couple of months. And, even during the strike, these guys are cranking along-so that’s a great sign."
In addition to scoring projects for television and radio, Metzger will also head up Catfish’s as-yet-unnamed interactive division, which is now in the process of being launched. Metzger noted that the division will be specifically geared toward music and sound design for projects created exclusively for the Web.
"Since Web designers don’t necessarily make the automatic jump to come to traditional commercial music houses, I’ve wanted to create something like this for awhile now," said Metzger. "So it’s specifically geared toward these Web designers, guys who work in Flash all day long, and want to create within that program." Plans call for the interactive unit to add more composers/sound designers at some point, he continued.
