Composer Emile Mosseri, who earned a Best Original Score Oscar nomination in 2021 for Minari, took to a short-form task with this moving film for hospital/medical center Montefiore Einstein.
Mosseri, whose credits also include the feature films The Last Black Man in San Francisco and Kajillionaire, as well as the anthology TV series Homecoming, teamed with music house Walker as well as sound designer Gus Koven of music/sound shop Barking Owl on a soundscape for Montefiore Einstein’s “Caring Makes Magic” directed by Fredrik Bond of MJZ for agency Alto. The film scored as the #1 entry in SHOOT's 4th Quarter of 2022 Top Ten Tracks Chart.
Matt Keith of Barking Owl served as audio post mixer on the film which introduces us to a toy shop owner who needs physical therapy on the long road to recovery. The medical care, treatment and attention he receives brings him back to his toy store, helping to heal and bring a village back to life, underscoring that holiday time can be magic.
VFX house KEVIN had a hand in creating a village within a toy store and unto itself–spurred on by the man who returns to work to tend to his toys and community. Mosseri’s steadily building symphonic score swells and provides an emotional undercurrent for a wondrous transformation of a stagnant town into a festive community. Just as the man heals with care and support, so too do the villagers who had atrophied in a holiday display in the toy store window. A boy whose ice skates don’t work can now move about. Skates and sleds work again. A bakery without cookies suddenly is cranking out an inventory of sweet treats. A train again runs through the village.
The Alto team included agency founder and chief creative officer Hannes Ciatti and partner/head of entertainment + production Matt Bonin
