Last Wednesday, we snuck out early to attend SHOOT’s New Directors Showcase and were fascinated to hear Peter Nicholson, chief creative officer at Deutsch, discuss mobile video advertising as a big opportunity for new directors. So fascinated that iSPOT decided to focus on mobile video for this week’s iChat, which features Jeff Janer, Third Screen Media’s chief marketing officer.
The mobile ad network is moving ahead with video ad campaigns for major clients including the U.S. Navy, but Janer was realistic in describing the mobile video ad marketplace as slow to advance because of a number of problems, from the lack of video enabled phones to subscription plans that force users to pay to watch video.
But Janer said there’s a problem on the production side, too, with advertisers using repurposed ads instead of creating original video content for the small two inch screens. “The problem is not being addressed at the moment,” he said, which should be a wake up call to agencies and production companies who are working in the space. And new directors, too!
Our iSPOT of the Week is a beautiful blend of live action and animation for Microsoft’s new software product, Silverlight, and we have news stories ranging from a consumer generated video contest from D&M Holdings, a home theater manufacturer, to an X-Ray video for V2, a new blend of vodka.
Drink up the news from today’s iSPOT and after you’re finished contact us with any news from your companies.
