iSPOT began the week by attending the Webby Film & Video Awards on Monday night, or should we say the Inaugural Webby Film & Video Awards, since it was the first time in its 11 year history that the Webby Awards have honored film & video. We could say the event marks a turning point for the medium, although there are lots of other occurrences that could merit that statement, from the playing of the first online video to the development of new video ad formats and on and on. Still, it was a festive occasion for videographers who are striving to play their work and make a living doing it, which is where the advertising comes in. Unfortunately, there was no awards category for video ads at the show, although a few ad related videos were award winners.
We are bigtime sports fans, but don’t spend much time with badminton. However, after watching the iSPOT of the Week, a video ad for Glaceau’s Vitaminwater, we may take up the game.
iSPOT also focuses on TurnHere this week, a video production company that has made short form video an advertising art form. Check out our story on its new campaign for Simon & Schuster and our iChat with TurnHere’s founder and CEO Brad Inman.
