Bicoastal creative agency Brand New School has signed director Daniel Uribe to its roster of in-house talent for representation in the U.S. Uribe brings his background in design and animation to his work behind the camera, where he crafts shorts, branded films, commercials, music videos, and social impact films.
Seamlessly blending live action with motion graphics and animation, Uribe is an expert storyteller who's worked with branded clients including Google, White Claw, Apple, Slack, and Meta, and he’s directed music videos for the artists Oh Wonder and Elsa Y Elmar. Prior to joining Brand New School, Uribe had most recently been repped by production house Curfew.
Uribe was born and raised amidst the art and culture of Mexico City before moving to the U.S. to enroll in the Savannah College of Art and Design, where he earned a BFA in motion media design. He went on to pursue animation and design internships at Digital Kitchen, Scholar, and Buck before discovering his true calling was on set. He helmed his first film in 2015 with a music video for Oh Wonder’s “Without You,” which has since racked up over 80 million views on YouTube and launched him onto the world stage as a director to watch.
Among his numerous awards and nominations, Uribe was shortlisted for the Young Directors Award in 2020 for his short film Influx, which also won the Shorts Spotlight Jury Award for Exceptional Filmmaking at the Savannah Film Festival and the Independent Shorts Award for Best Microfilm. In 2021, he was nominated for a UKMVA Award for Best Pop Newcomer Video.
“I had the benefit of working with Brand New School as a creative director before joining the roster as a director. I’ve been so impressed by the level of artistry, collaboration, and support that BNS has cultivated,” said Uribe. “They attract the world’s most daring and renowned brands, which pushes me creatively and strategically.”
“We built Brand New School as a place for artists to break new ground, innovate, and experiment, and those values complement Daniel’s directorial career,” said Devin Brook, BNS’s managing partner. “We’re thrilled to have Daniel on our roster, as he lends a cinematic eye to everything he directs. We look forward to nurturing his creative spirit under the aegis of Brand New School.”
Carrie Coon Relishes Being Part Of An Ensemble–From “The Gilded Age” To “His Three Daughters”
It can be hard to catch Carrie Coon on her own.
She is far more likely to be found in the thick of an ensemble. That could be on TV, in "The Gilded Age," for which she was just Emmy nominated, or in the upcoming season of "The White Lotus," which she recently shot in Thailand. Or it could be in films, most relevantly, Azazel Jacobs' new drama, "His Three Daughters," in which Coon stars alongside Natasha Lyonne and Elizabeth Olsen as sisters caring for their dying father.
But on a recent, bright late-summer morning, Coon is sitting on a bench in the bucolic northeast Westchester town of Pound Ridge. A few years back, she and her husband, the playwright Tracy Letts, moved near here with their two young children, drawn by the long rows of stone walls and a particularly good BLT from a nearby cafe that Letts, after biting into, declared must be within 15 miles of where they lived.
In a few days, they would both fly to Los Angeles for the Emmys (Letts was nominated for his performance in "Winning Time" ). But Coon, 43, was then largely enmeshed in the day-to-day life of raising a family, along with their nightly movie viewings, which Letts pulls from his extensive DVD collection. The previous night's choice: "Once Around," with Holly Hunter and Richard Dreyfus.
Coon met Letts during her breakthrough performance in "Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolfe?" on Broadway in 2012. She played the heavy-drinking housewife Honey. It was the first role that Coon read and knew, viscerally, she had to play. Immediately after saying this, Coon sighs.
"It sounds like something some diva would say in a movie from the '50s," Coon says. "I just walked around in my apartment in my slip and I had pearls and a little brandy. I made a grocery list and I just did... Read More
