1) Have your own point of view. Be a great listener, communicator, collaborator and sales person of ideas. Always be working on your craft whether you’re getting paid for it or not. Find motivated partners who have a common vision for advancing your career. Save half the money you make. Keep evolving.
2) The very best line producers in the commercial/content world are those who are able to walk the fine line of helping to bring a directors vision to life, keeping open lines of positive communications with the agency/client group, make it all happen on budget (under budget’s even better) and most importantly, have everyone involved feel like the end result exceeded their expectations. Equal parts creative collaborator, logistical expert, financial negotiator, diplomat and happy host.
Malcolm Poynton, global chief creative officer at Cheil Worldwide, is leaving the agency after 10 years.
Poynton was appointed Cheil Worldwide’s first global CCO in December 2014 with remit to help the company evolve into one of the world’s most recognized creative networks.
Having led Cheil Worldwide to WARC No. 1 Independent Network (2021) and multiple Agency of the Year titles over the course of his decade at Cheil, Poynton is looking forward to working closer to home.
Prior to joining Cheil Worldwide, Poynton held positions of CCO at SapientNitro Europe, and executive creative director for Ogilvy UK and Saatchi&Saatchi in Sydney.

Cheil Worldwide won a host of top creative awards over the past decade, achieving a total of more than 600 global and regional honors including a Cannes Grand Prix, The One Show Best of Discipline, the Clio Health Grand, the Clio Entertainment Grand, Super Clio, D&AD and D&AD Impact awards as well as Grand Prix at Spikes, Dubai Lynx, El Ojo, AdFest, and multiple Effies.
