Former Sr. Producer At Campbell-Ewald/West Moves Over To Edit House.
By MILLIE TAKAKI
Betty Meadows, formerly senior producer at Campbell-Ewald/West, Los Angeles, has joined Rye Films, the Hollywood-based editorial house founded in ’79 by editor Rye Dahlman. Meadows comes aboard as the shop is planning a move to Santa Monica. The new site has been secured, space planning has begun and construction is set to start in December. Dahlman estimates that the Santa Monica operation should be fully up and running by Feb. 1.
Rye Films is also looking to add two more editors to a roster that currently consists of Dahl-man and Kevin Moore. Meadows will head the company’s search for editorial talent. "That’s one of her strengths," said Dahlman of Meadows. "She’s worked with so many editors over the years and thoroughly understands what agencies want."
Meadows had been producing spots on staff at Campbell-Ewald/West since ’98. She worked primarily on the DirecTV account, turning out campaigns in ’98 and ’99 that were directed, respectively, by Peter Darley Miller of Hollywood-based Stiefel & Company, and Thom Higgins of bicoastal RSA USA. The latter broke this summer and featured such National Football League stars as Brett Favre, Dan Marino, Terrell Davis, Steve Young and Jake Plummer. Meadows’ latest credit at the agency was a package of spots introducing the TiVo digital video recorder, directed by Tom DeCerchio of Morton Jankel Zander, Los Angeles.
Prior to joining Campbell-Ewald/West, Meadows freelance produced for such agencies as BBDO West, Los Angeles, Suissa-Miller Advertising, Santa Monica, and Campbell-Ewald/ West. She broke into the agency biz at Ogilvy & Mather, Atlanta, and then moved to Los Angeles where she became an account executive at the former Bozell & Jacobs (now Bozell Worldwide). When Bozell & Jacobs merged with Kenyon & Eckhardt (forming the now defunct BJK&E), Meadows moved into broadcast production. She began her aforementioned freelancing in ’95.
At press time, Dahlman was cutting a Tylenol assignment directed by Leslie Dektor of Dektor Film, Hollywood, for Saatchi & Saatchi, New York. The editor is then scheduled to embark on another Dektor-directed project, this one for educational Web site eScore via Saatchi & Saatchi, San Francisco. Among Dahlman’s other recent credits is a Fannie Mae package helmed by Ray Dillman of bicoastal Gartner for GSD&M, Austin, Texas. Moore recently cut an American Cancer Society PSA, also directed by Dillman for GSD&M.
