Music and sound company Barking Owl has added sound designer Gus Koven to its team. Based in L.A., Koven will develop sound and music for global brand clients in Barking Owl’s A-List portfolio, which currently includes Pepsi, Nike, Reebok and Facebook.
Throughout his career or more than 20 years, Koven has been a part of numerous renowned campaigns, including monster.com’s “Opportunity Roars,” Kia’s “Arrival”, and a multitude of Apple spots, including “The Magic of Mini feat. Tierra Whack,” “The City,” and “Bulbs.” Prior to joining Barking Owl, Koven had most recently been freelancing after having served as sound designer at music and sound design company stimmung for two decades. In addition to his work on advertising campaigns, Koven also has years of experience working on documentaries, shows and albums, including The Chef Show on Netflix, and Daft Punk’s 2013 album, “Random Access Memories.”
“Gus has the exact talent, passion and experience to make him a perfect fit at Barking Owl,” said Kelly Bayett, co-founder and creative director at Barking Owl. “I’ve seen a lot of campaigns lately where the sound has been so emotional and amazing and when I look at the credits, it’s always Gus’ work. Having the opportunity to work with him again and bring him onto the team has been amazing. His personality and track-record will be invaluable as we continue growing and telling meaningful, impactful stories through sound.”
Koven said, “I’m also really excited to be working with Kelly again. We made a great team back in the stimmung days, and she has an intuitive sense of the sound and music process.”
Barking Owl developed the sound and music for numerous commercials in Super Bowl LV, including Anheuser Busch, T-Mobile, and Klarna, as well as spots leading up to the Super Bowl halftime show for Pepsi. As Barking Owl gears up for the launch of its NYC studio later this year, it also continues to launch new performances for the Barking Owl Sessions, a web series that broadcasts performances from Black artists to raise awareness from brands, agencies, creatives and producers who are looking to license music or hire talent for commercials.
