Director Christina Hodnet has joined Backyard for U.S. commercial representation. Her credits span such clients as Disney, Bell, Orange Mobile, Pampers, Sears, Betty Crocker, Wal-Mart, Marshalls and Tylenol. She has most recently worked on a pair of fashion films for Smythe LesVestes.
Hodnet grew up in Southern California, entering the film industry as a young teen in front of the camera. Those first experiences gave her insight into drawing great performances from young actors and ignited a passion to pursue a degree at The Art Center College of Design in Pasadena. Her directing career started shortly after graduation.
Hodnet resides between Toronto and Los Angeles with her husband and two young children, who she deems her inspiration. “Be careful if you’re my friend or my family,” Hodnet noted, “You might just end up in my work somehow.”
She is represented in Canada by Sons & Daughters and was previously represented in the U.S. by Concrete + Clay.
“I’m interested in the moment in between the moments,” shared Hodnet. “The photo you delete because it’s not perfect, but in reality is more representational of your life and more charming than the perfect one.
Backyard head of production Emily Malito observed, “Christina embraces being a woman and a mother and uses this perspective to her advantage. She is her own target audience which makes for a powerful connection between her, her subjects and her film.”
