What was initially planned as a one-year anniversary celebration for the Association of Music Producers (AMP) has become an industry-wide fundraiser for aid and relief to refugees of the war in Yugoslavia. Dubbed "The Event for Refugee Relief," AMP members hope to raise net proceeds in excess of $25,000 from corporate sponsorship donations and ticket sales.
The event will be held Wednesday, May 5, from 7 to 11 p.m. at Webster Hall, the landmark club and performance venue in New York (125 E. 11 St.). Tickets cost $50 apiece. Among the festivities will be live music on stage, DJs, an open bar (7 to 10 p.m.) and hors d’oeuvres.
Many AMP member music houses have agreed to become corporate sponsors. In addition, other companies have come on board with corporate sponsorships, including SHOOT; Howard Schwartz Recording, New York; Creative Management Partners, bicoastal and Chicago; and Musically Yours, Rochelle Park, N.J.
Proceeds from the event will be donated equally to CARE, Doctors Without Borders and the International Rescue Committee, organizations that are working directly in the refugee relief effort to provide food, shelter, medical and relocation assistance. For further info on how to obtain tickets or to become a corporate sponsor of the charity event, contact AMP at (212) 599-2456 or visit AMP’s newly established Website at www. ampnow.com.
