The Cinema Audio Society has announced the nominees for the 51st Annual CAS Awards for Outstanding Achievement in Sound Mixing for 2014 in six categories, as well as the CAS Technical Achievement Award nominations.
In the running for the CAS Award in the high-profile Motion Pictures-Live Action category are: American Sniper, Birdman, Guardians of the Galaxy, Interstellar and Unbroken.
“This year’s nominations reflect the outstanding sound mixing being done in both film and television as determined by the voting members of the Cinema Audio Society,” said David Fluhr, president of CAS. “I congratulate each of the nominees on a job well-mixed.”
Final balloting for both the Outstanding Sound Mixing and the CAS Technical Achievement Awards will open online Wednesday January 21, and end Friday, February 6.
The CAS Awards will be presented at a sealed envelope dinner on February 14 in the Crystal Ballroom of the Millennium Biltmore Hotel. During the awards the Society’s highest honor–the CAS Career Achievement Award–will be presented to production sound mixer David Macmillan, CAS.

Eleanor Adds Director Candice Vernon To Its Roster For Spots and Branded Content
Director Candice Vernon has joined production house Eleanor for U.S. representation spanning commercials and branded content. She has already wrapped several jobs at Eleanor, which waited to announce her until they had a body of work together.

The home of the “Revolving Door” commercial is a beautiful array of bold sunset hues, African prints, and African art.
Vernon said, “I asked myself, what feels right to me? What feels new? I wanted to bring an essence of not just Black Americans but the full diaspora. I wanted to make a statement that we’re not a monolith.”

When we all saw Candice’s reel, we could all tell the passion for the craft, passion for really trying to help us from where we are to where we’re trying to go.”
Vernon brings a unique lens to... Read More
