ALIBI Music has promoted Paul Ortiz to music director, a role more befitting the roles and responsibilities he has gradually assumed during his tenure with the production music company. Ortiz, who joined ALIBI as music coordinator just over two years ago, has been instrumental in facilitating music searches for clients, tagging the ALIBI library with metadata and assisting with album production.
“During his time with us, he has ingrained himself as an integral part of the operation by improving and streamlining our initial data processing, which is one of the most essential components of our business,” said ALIBI Music founder and executive producer Jonathan Parks. “Paul has become known and respected among our clients for his creative choices, working with our head of production, Sam Wale, in the album release process, with essential input on what to produce based on the requests we receive, as well as new and classic trends.”
Before joining ALIBI, Ortiz was doing sound design, creating video tutorials for producers and actually writing for ALIBI as a freelance composer, where he earned the library a Production Music Award in the Rap category for his track, “Tom Cruiser.” The relationship continued to strengthen, and Ortiz eventually took the opportunity to become part of the company’s full-time staff in early 2019.
Ortiz, who grew up in a musical family, began his career as a multi-instrument-playing solo artist who performed all throughout Europe under the moniker Chimp Spanner. During a coast-to-coast tour of the United States, he was billed as one of the “founders” of a new wave of British progressive metal.
