The Association of Independent Commercial Editors (AICE) is looking to broaden its reach via several means, including the formation of new chapters, and an exploration of how to best develop a closer working relationship with the Association of Imaging Technology and Sound (ITS).
AICE national president Jeanne Bonansinga, editor/principal at Edit Sweet, Chicago, recently met with a contingent of some 20 spot editors in Minneapolis. She reported strong interest in establishing an AICE/ Minneapolis chapter. According to Bonansinga and AICE national executive director John Held, the organization additionally hopes to launch chapters in Atlanta and Miami. Bonansinga related that she has also had conversations with some Detroit editors about a possible chapter there. She noted that Southfield, Mich.-based Griot Editorial is currently a member of AICE/ Chicago, and that the Detroit market is significant enough to merit its own chapter.
Beyond extending its geography, the AICE made expansive strides at its national board meeting earlier this month (4/10) during the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) convention in Las Vegas. AICEs national board met with ITS president Terry Rainey, resulting in an agreement whereby both groups would form committees to consider ways in which the editorial and postproduction trade associations could meaningfully team, with each retaining its organizational autonomy.
Rainey will head the ITS committee, which will have four other members, two of whom he had secured at press time: Ginger Hall from Del Hall Video, Chicago; and Doug Cheek of GTN, Oak Park, Mich.
AICEs committee to explore the ITS relationship consists of: Bonansinga; Held; Tim McGuire of Cutters, Chicago; and Lisa Hinman of Phoenix Editorial, San Francisco. McGuire and Bonansinga are also both members of ITS. The two groups have some common ground and goals which form the basis of us entering into a cooperative relationship, said Bonansinga.
