Refinery, a New York-based editorial boutique (formerly known as Horn/Eisenberg Editorial & Graphics), has hired Andrea Adler in the newly created position of executive producer. Prior to taking 18 months’ maternity leave from the industry, Adler was a producer from 1996 to ’98 in the New York office of Red Car, which also maintains offices in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago and Dallas.
While at Red Car, she worked on commercials including Little Caesars’ "The Big Big Balloon" via Cliff Freeman and Partners, New York, and Target’s "Bell Hop," out of Kirshenbaum Bond & Partners, New York. Both spots were cut by Jerry Fried.
Adler will play a primary role in repositioning Refinery, a moniker which took effect in mid-May. "I was hired to help get the new name-Refinery-known in the marketplace, and to help mold the company’s new image. Part of my responsibility is to restructure the inner workings of Refinery, hire additional staff and enhance client service," she said.
After staying home for a year and a half, looking after her baby girl, Adler decided that she wanted to return to work and explored options on both the agency and postproduction sides. Refinery’s controller/general manager Mitch Garelick was one of the people that Adler called for leads. He suggested she join Refinery as executive producer, and after several discussions she accepted the position.
Garelick told SHOOT that the editorial boutique was undergoing a period of transition and the name change was part of reinventing the company and taking on an executive producer. "I’m really excited to have Andrea on board and am enthusiastic to see what energies and ideas and processes she brings to Refinery. She’s a great asset to the company," he related.
Prior to her position at Red Car, Adler worked on the agency side. From ’95 to ’96, she was a freelance broadcast business manager for New York agencies including Cliff Freeman and Partners, and J. Walter Thompson. From ’94 to ’95, she was senior broadcast business manager at D’Arcy Masius Benton & Bowles, New York (now known as D’Arcy). Adler graduated in ’91 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Communications from Ithaca College, Ithaca, N.Y.
Editors Chris Horn, Ed Kisberg, Alan Eisenberg and Steve Lifshey, and two junior editors-Andrew Malenda and Patty Schumann-make up Refinery’s editing roster. The company is also looking at hiring an additional editor in the near future.
