1) It’s like the wild west. Post companies aligning with directors. Production companies aligning with post. Agencies doing more soup to nuts work in house. The one stop shop thing is not going away. Trying to be as helpful as you can to your creative partners goes a long way. And budgets. While content work still seems to still be lagging broadcast work on the budget front, it seems to be catching up a bit.
2) We have always represented filmmakers. People that know how to shoot, direct and edit. When longer form content work started to become more prevalent it naturally came to us in a big way. Some of our guys are former creatives. It’s still a talent-driven business and I feel like we have a lot of it over here. We are in a great place to handle whatever is thrown at us. And always being a good guy helps. As far as new talent, an example our newest signing SPIELBERGS. Alex Karpovsky started as a commercial editor. He is also a strong writer and has directed several award-winning films as well as acting. He teamed up with Teddy Blanks who is a really strong titles/graphics guy and musician. Between the two of them there is little they can’t do.
3) We have been producing ongoing films for Ford out of Team Detroit. The brand message is very light and the stories have been incredible. It’s always great to work on projects that inspire others and teach people positive things they might not have been aware of.
And on the other side of the spectrum we built a replica of the Green Monster in Manhattan and with hidden cameras and Lenny Clarke as the voice of the wall had fun with Yankees fans. We had to put the wall up and take it down in the same day—or else I think that Yankees fans would have done it for us. It was a big build, so there was really no room for error. It was part of a larger campaign for Benjamin Moore out of the Martin Agency. The campaign was incredibly successful and garnered a Cannes Lion.
4) VR. One of our directors just shot his first VR project. It will be interesting to see where it goes and how big it gets.
