1) Within 2015 more and more on set DIT’s started live grading remotely. We certainly had the odd person do this in the past, but more and more DPs this year have opted to not have their DITs tethered to their cameras. Running a live grade system with a Teradek for taking the wireless signal was seen often, as well as other more unique workflows like running FoolControl for controlling a RED camera remotely.
Another great development we have seen within 2015 is the release of DNxHR codecs for Avid. Having the ability to edit in 4k for your offline cut is starting to gain a lot of traction with our non scripted dramatic work.
2) There were a lot of new cameras that started hitting the production world (and no longer just the trade show floor) this year. We are used to testing camera formats and learning new workflows. However this year this got ramped up in high gear with so many new formats coming in every day. There were plenty of times where only one of our offices were able to get their hands on the brand new camera. Therefore stepping up our company wide communication, collaboration, remote education and dissemination was a top priority. With how far we have came this year on this front, there should be no reason one office knows something about a workflow or new format that another one does not!
3) Within 2015 we took work within 19 different cities. Scaling our dailies department to be able to take on this many different locations, while still offering the high level of service our clients are used to was a huge accomplishment for our team!
4) Within 2016 I think we will see a lot more people in the scripted dramatic world slowly start to embrace 4k offline edits. As previously stated this was something that has came into fruition in 2015, however the scripted dramatic clients we have, are yet to start making this transition.
