In light of the recent terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and at the Pentagon, many in advertising have questioned the relative importance of advertising. While at this time commercials may not seem as vital as they once were, it is important, as both national and local leaders have urged us, to get back to business as usual, which means working on great creative. So, on that note, SHOOT is pleased with the creative and dynamic personalities that comprise our Directors Fall Edition.
For SHOOT‘s Special Report, the latest crop of up-and-coming directors represents a cross section of where the "typical" spot helmer hails from. "Fall Harvest" examines five directors new to the spotmaking business. Michael Sucsy of Palomar Pictures, is a graduate of Georgetown University, where he studied international diplomacy; he later went to the Art Center College of Design, Pasadena, Calif. Carl Erik Rinsch of RSA USA created a spec reel of spots for his thesis at Brown University-he had planned to become a feature helmer. Jim Hosking of Partizan has an agency background, while Marcos Siega of bicoastal/international hungry man, and Spencer Susser of Bob Industries both come from the music video arena.
Included in this issue are 20 profiles of directors who help create ads that generate water cooler discussions, cause viewers to turn back to the TV on their way to the kitchen, and prompt folks in the industry to ask "Who did that?"
We hope you enjoy our Directors Fall Edition, and as always, we welcome your feedback.
