THE SPOTS
An 11-spot campaign features National Football League players showing their support for the United Way in comedic ways. In "Duce Staley/Eagles," the Philadelphia running back shows his support for local educational programs in a classroom, where he is asked to spell "chrysanthemum." After he complains that one of the younger kids only had to spell "cat," he is told to take a time out. Another spot shows New York Giants quarterback Kerry Collins making a long pass with a loaf of bread directly into a man’s food basket. In "Sam Adams/Ravens," the Baltimore defensive tackle is shown in a pool, being kept afloat by a small boy, and accidentally exploding a test dummy when demonstrating CPR. The other :30s include "Ed McCaffrey/Broncos," "Dewayne Washington/Steelers," "Shawn Jefferson/Falcons," "Rodney Harrison/ Chargers," "Chris Samuels/Redskins," "Tony McGee/ Bengals," "Tim Couch/ Browns" and "Eddie George/Titans."
Spots began airing Sept. 9.
