The eighth annual Cresta Awards were held earlier this week (10/31) in Milan, with the U.S. registering but two winners in the TV/cinema portion of the global competition, which is under the auspices of Creative Standards International and the International Advertising Association (IAA). IAA’s members include agencies, advertisers, media and other industry-related services from around the world.
Taking the Cresta Consumer Grand Prix was Big Orange’s "Daddy," directed by Raphael Vital and David Durand of the Levallois-Perret, France-based Les Producers for BDDP@TBWA, Boulogne, France.
The American honorees were a New York Lottery campaign and a MasterCard spot. The latter, "Cardboard Box," was directed by Peggy Sirota of bicoastal Mars Media for McCann-Erickson, New York. And the package of New York Lottery spots—"Fly Fishing," "Jaguar" and "Language Tapes"—was helmed by Chris Hooper, from bicoastal Tool of North America for Grey Advertising, New York.
The only production house to garner more than one Cresta honor in TV/cinema was Pumpkin Films, Zurich, with Alcoholics Anonymous’ "Police Control" and Swica Health Insurance’s "Forever Young." The former was directed by Guntmar Lasnig for McCann-Erickson, Zurich. "Forever Young" was helmed by Julia Jason for Studer & Wohlgemuth, Zurich.
Ad agencies with multiple wins in TV/cinema included BDDP & Fils, Boulogne, and Advico Young & Rubicam, Zurich. BDDP & Fils’ three Cresta Award winners were: Manix Condoms’ "The Fingerprint," helmed by Franck Vroegrop of La Pac, Paris; Air Liberté’s "The Stewardess," directed by Michel Haznavicious of the Neuilly Sur Seine, France-based TSF Productions; and Williams Deodorant’s "The Wave," directed by Samuel Tourneux of Why Us, Paris.
Advico Young & Rubicam scored a pair of TV/cinema winners: Swissair Airlines’ "Swissair Barcode USA," and a Kuoni Reisen campaign consisting of four spots: "Airport," "Tie," "Car" and "Football."
