Killer Tracks, a Hollywood-based music production house, debuted what it claims to be the first large-scale production music library available in Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound. The company also announced a digital download partnership with San Francisco online music firm, Beatnik.
The Dolby Digital 5.1 upgrade from the library music standard of Dolby Digital 5.0 was made, said Killer Tracks marketing manager Dennis Pontillano, because the company felt it was important to offer music quality parallel to existing productions in feature film, television production, commercials, HDTV, DVD and software games. We are going towards uncharted territory with the 5.1 but we decided to take the chance and feel it is a positive move. Feedback at NAB [the National Association of Broadcasters convention earlier this month in Las Vegas] was positive both from the production companies and media companies, related Pontillano.
