Veteran editor Steve Schreiber has joined New York-based Rhinoceros Editorial and Post.
Schreiber was one of the founding partners in New York-based Editors GAS (since renamed Invisible Dog). In ’93, he relocated to Miami to launch Southern Exposure Post and Pro. He has spent the past two years commuting between Miami and Los Angeles-where he founded the editing shop One Northstar. Both One Northstar and Southern Exposure have since closed.
Rhinoceros Editorial and Post is part of the Multi-Video Group (MVG) of companies, which includes New York-based Rhinoceros Visual Effects & Design, Cool Beans Digital Audio, Wall to Wall Films and Wax Music and Sound Design.
Schreiber is excited to be back in his hometown. "I lived in Miami for a couple of years, but the level of expertise wasn’t up to the level I would have wanted. I was led to believe that there was an emerging film industry in Miami-but there wasn’t and I don’t think there ever will be-so it was a big disappointment. I was also homesick; I’m a New York kind of guy," he said.
Schreiber added that he has been a friend of MVG’s CEO/ partner David Binstock for a long time and was interested to see the company diversifying into all aspects of postproduction under the company’s various divisions. "It was the first place I called on when I returned to New York and my feelings about the company were confirmed when I met with the partners joining them. Rhinoceros has all the right systems in place and they are ready for the future by providing a one-stop shop with state-of-the-art equipment."
Schreiber has edited spots for clients including Pepsi, Coca-Cola, Ford, Miller Beer and Burger King. Most recently, he worked on campaigns for Ford and Mattel via Ogilvy & Mather, Los Angeles, Toyota via Saatchi & Saatchi LA, Torrance, Calif., and trailers for Disney Home Video via Buena Vista Home Entertainment, all through One Northstar. Through Southern Exposure, he cut campaigns for Florida Lottery and World’s Leading Cruise Lines via Cooper-HMS Partners, Miami.
Commenting on the appointment, Joe Passarella, MVG’s chief marketing officer/partner, said that it was a "feather in the cap" for Rhinoceros Editorial, which is currently searching out leading talent to add to its existing stable of eight Avid editors.
"Steve is truly an icon in the editorial business, having set the editorial pace in New York for a long time, and is one of the best in the business … He walked in the door and said, ‘I want to be with you guys.’ It was a decision to be made by the three partners of MVG-Binstock, myself and executive/VP John Starace-and not one of us had a moment’s hesitation in signing him immediately," related Passarella.
