Director Jeff Gordon, formerly of bicoastal Morton Jankel Zander (MJZ), has joined Santa Monica-based Crash Films for commercials and music videos. At press time, Gordon—who’s established in music clips—had just wrapped his first career spot assignment: a Crash-produced package for an undisclosed casino client out of San Francisco ad agency Odiorne Wilde Narraway & Partners.
Gordon began directing in ’97, when some friends in a local band asked him to helm a music video. Bigger jobs quickly followed and his music video portfolio grew; the latest entry being Neve’s "It’s Over Now," from the soundtrack to The Faculty. Other clip directing credits include Fenix tx’s "It’s My Fault," Big Fish’s "Sell Out," and Wheatus’ "Teenage Dirtbag," from the Loser soundtrack.
Looking to diversify meaningfully into commercials and to up his music video profile, Gordon reasoned that Crash is the place to hopefully accomplish both those objectives. Executive producers/partners in Crash are Bill Fortney, Gary Ward and Joseph Uliano.
Prior to directing, Gordon had a brief stint as a designer at an architectural firm and as a radio station disc jockey before his art and computer skills helped him land a job as a digital compositor and Avid editor with Burst Studios, Los Angeles. There he worked on the design of video games and CD ROMs. His experience in post and design is reflected in much of his video work, which often entails extensively designed sets and visual effects.
Gordon joins a Crash directorial roster that also includes Ron Ames, Nancy Bardawil, Bill Barminski, Jeff Gordon, Billy Kent, Keva Rosenfeld, Rubin Whitmore II and Robin Willis.
