Director Mo Husseini, formerly of Industrial Light+Magic Commercial Productions (ILMCP), San Rafael and Los Angeles, has joined kaboom productions, the San Francisco-based spot company founded by director Jim Barton in ’97.
At ILMCP, Husseini’s directorial credits included ads for such clients as Simpata, Activision and FOX Sports. He comes aboard Kaboom as the house plans a move to expanded quarters this fall. Company executive producer Lauren Schwartz observed that Husseini’s "unconventional comedic style" and affinity for the collaborative creative process make him an ideal addition.
Born in Cairo and raised in Kuwait, Husseini has lived his life around the globe, including a tenure at boarding school in England. At the age of 15, he moved to Jordan to complete high school.
Following his secondary education, Husseini was offered a full scholarship at Northeastern University. He relocated to Boston to study political economics, until a fateful cross-country excursion led Husseini to Berkeley, Calif. He left UC Berkeley to escape a future career as a financial analyst, and landed his first "entertainment" job as a translator for a political documentary. The producers couldn’t pay Husseini for his translation work, but they did provide him with the opportunity to work-unpaid-as a film assistant. Husseini learned the ropes and caught the bug for the filmmaking process.
Husseini’s resume caught the attention of Industrial Light+ Magic (ILM), San Rafael, in ’94, and he joined the company as an assistant editor. There, Husseini garnered numerous commercial credits, and directed a music video for Preacher Boy. At ILM, he worked as an editor, a visual effects supervisor and, ultimately, a director for spot division ILMCP. "ILM was my equivalent of film school, and the company certainly provided me with the opportunity to learn every aspect of filmmaking," noted Husseini.
