The American Society of Cinematographers (ASC) has announced the recipients of the organizations Karl Struss Heritage Award: Jonah Terrain and Lisa Wiegand.
The award honors outstanding achievement by a film student or recent graduate in filmmaking. The heads of cinematography departments nominated candidates and a blue ribbon panel of ASC members chose the winners based solely on merit.
Terrain earned a bachelor of fine arts in film from the Art Center College of Design, Pasadena, Calif., in April 98. Wiegand earned a master of fine arts from the University of California, Los Angeles, in June 98.
The ASC also announced honorable mentions to Rogelio Gonzales-Abraldes, a graduate of the University of Southern California; Martin Ahlgren, a student at New Yorks School of Visual Arts; and Michael Culyba, a graduate of the Florida State University School of Motion Pictures, TV and Recreation Arts.
The Karl Struss Heritage Award was created in commemoration of the ASCs 80th anniversary in 99. The award will be dedicated to the memory of a different cinematographer each year.
