Screenvision Cinema Network, the New York-headquartered U.S. sponsor for the Cannes International Advertising Festival, announced that Judy Wald Partners, New York, will again underwrite the team that will represent America in the Young Creative Competition that takes place at the Cannes Festival each year. In 98, more than 30 countries participated, with each choosing a team to represent it in the competition. The teams are briefed and have 24 hours to execute a print ad for a pro-bono client. To qualify, Young Creative teams must be 30 years or younger as of June 19, 1999, be Apple literate, and execute the ad in English.
The International Advertising Festival is unique among awards shows in offering this onsite competition. It is a grueling, 24-hour, no-holds barred, creative shoot-out, said Dennis Fogarty, Screenvisions president and U.S. representative to the Festival, who added that the international jury judging 7,000-plus global, press and poster submissions for the Cannes fest will take time out to review the Young Creative work. A special award is given during the Press & Poster Awards ceremony.
To compete in Cannes as Team USA, Young Creatives need to participate in a national contest organized by Screenvision Cinema Network. Ads submitted will be judged by a panel of top creative directors. As with the international challenge, Young Creatives from America will be sent a brief on a pro-bono campaign and given a week rather than 24 hours to submit an ad.
Participants must provide proof of age (drivers license or passport) and a written request via letter or fax for the briefing materials by March 31. On April 1, briefing documents will be over-nighted to participating teams who then must return their entries to Screenvision by April 9. Judging will take place in mid-April and the winning team will be notified by Judy Wald Partners. The winners will be registered delegates of the 46th International Advertising Festival; roundtrip airfare from New York to Nice and a double room in a two-star hotel will be provided courtesy of Judy Wald Partners.
To apply for Team USA, send proof of age and your request for the briefing document to: Susan Lilley, Screenvision Cinema Network, 597 Fifth Ave., New York, N.Y. 10017 by March 31, 1999. No request will be taken over the phone. All requests must be in writing (fax is 212 752-0086).
This years Cannes International Advertising Festival will be June 21-26.
