In a new campaign from National Geographic in partnership with 72andSunny Los Angeles, the two explore the fearless wheelchair-bound journey of Syrian refugee Nujeen Mustafa who has, and continues to inspire others to go “further” in their curiosity, wonder and determination.
Born with cerebral palsy, Nujeen and her sister fled Syria and made the 3,500 mile expedition to present-day Germany. The latest spots capture their treacherous journey, highlighting the light-hearted moments oftentimes taken for granted as those she was “never meant to see”–from boats to trains, even to drinking hot chocolate, Nujeen pushed her journey “further.” Through her experience, she inspires others to push boundaries, even when the doubt seeps in. Today, she dreams of becoming an astronaut and continuing to go beyond.
Reed Morano via Pulse Films directed the work, including this film. Morano won an Emmy and a DGA Award for her directing of the groundbreaking “Offred” episode of The Handmaid’s Tale.
