Spontaneous Combustion, a New York-based digital studio specializing in the creation of visual effects for the advertising, broadcast and film industries, has added desktop artist Bryan Keeling to its graphics team. He specializes in Adobe After Effects and other desktop paint and animation packages.
Keeling makes the move to Spontaneous following four years at bicoastal/international Pittard Sullivan’s Culver City, Calif., operation where for the last year, he was a broadcast graphic production artist using After Effects to create animation, effects and 2-D/3-D composites for network packages, ID’s, promos and commercials. During that time, and extending back as far as three years, he also worked as project-based programmer, animator and technical director and/or technical designer for the interactive media division at Pittard Sullivan. His primary responsibilities included programming, animating and scripting HTML Javascript, mTropolis, Director, After Effects and Flash media for Website, CD-ROM, kiosks, DVD and enhanced interactive television projects.
Earlier, he was a Mac production artist and HTML director/ programmer and a system support coordinator with Pittard Sullivan. Keeling lent his expertise to a wide range of high-profile projects for clients, including Nine West, WebTV, FoxKids, Fox Family, f/x, Toshiba and the Microsoft Network.

The Official Competition jury said: “Our jury was incredibly moved by Adam Elliot’s Memoir of a Snail, which is a singular achievement in filmmaking. Emotionally resonant and constantly surprising, Memoir tackles pertinent issues such as bullying, loneliness and grief head-on, creating a crucial and universal dialogue in a way that only animation can. The jury is delighted to recognize an animated film alongside its live-action peers.”
Rounding out the winners of this year’s films screening In Competition are:
