Remember that iconic dancing scene from the 1983 feature film Risky Business where the main character Joel slides across the floor in his underwear and dances his you-know-what off?
Well fast forward to today and Domino’s has a new take on the scene that gives it a pizza-centric twist in order to show off its latest ordering innovation–Domino’s Tracker’s new GPS delivery alerts.
The new commercial features “Hamilton” actor and Dancing With The Stars winner, Jordan Fisher, in the lead role. After some very familiar hallway sliding and coffee table dancing, Jordan receives a Domino’s pizza delivery from Curtis Armstrong, who played Joel’s best friend, Myles Dalby, in the original film. And most importantly, thanks to a GPS delivery alert which shows the location of an order in real time on an interactive map, Jordan isn’t caught with his pants down when Curtis rings the doorbell.
Matt Lenski of production house Arts & Sciences directed the Domino’s spot for agency Crispin Porter Bogusky.
The spot was meticulously crafted to pay homage to the 1980s’ movie by matching the original color grade, film grain and memorable music. Additionally, and after a lengthy search, a house was found with a near perfect staircase for the iconic scene. The full scene will live as an online video while condensed versions are running as national TV ads and as online shorts.
