Editor Mauro Camoroda and executive producer Amy Burlaga have joined the San Francisco facility of bicoastal editorial house Crew Cuts, which also maintains shops in New York and Santa Monica. The hirings fortify Crew Cuts’ West Coast operation, according to Robin Hall, Sr., executive producer of Crew Cuts/West.
Camoroda was formerly freelance cutting at different editorial companies in San Francisco, as well as for ad agency Wieden & Kennedy, Portland, Ore., and Amsterdam. He began his career at FilmCore, San Francisco, where he edited commercials for three years. Camoroda’s credits include spots for such clients as Nike, Foot Locker, the Indy Racing League, Skechers, ESPN and the Partnership for a Drug-Free America.
Camoroda cited the advantage of being able to shuttle back and forth among Crew Cuts’ three cites, drawing business from advertising communities on both coasts. He hopes to diversify beyond high-energy ads, for which he’s best known, into storytelling and comedy fare. Camoroda often crafts sound design to complement his editing.
At his new roost, Camoroda joins resident editor Erik Johnson, who launched the San Francisco office in ’98 and has cut commercials for such advertisers as E*Trade, Isuzu, Hotjobs.com and Nike.
Burlaga is no stranger to Crew Cuts, having come over from its New York operation. She entered the commercial industry as a scheduler at Big Pictures (now Cabana), New York. She then forayed into producing at now defunct Dennis Hayes & Associates in ’94, and at Hayes’ in-house music and sound design company, Pink Noise, New York, in ’95. (When the Hayes studio closed, Pink Noise graduated from being a division to a full-fledged company.)
In ’96, Burlaga returned to the creative editorial arena, joining Crew Cuts/New York as a producer. She has worked with all of the Crew Cuts editors, as well as with New York executive producer Nancy Shames and the aforementioned Hall. Crew Cuts now collectively features 13 editors, including company partners Clayton Hemmert, Sherri Margulies and Chuck Willis.
