In this cinema spot titled “Home Alone” we hear from pets whose owners have gone off to movie theaters to see Star Wars: The Force Awakens. These talking pets clearly are Star Wars fans who have been denied the joy of seeing the latest film. At the very least, says one dog, he should have been left with a toy to play with–maybe a sock. This is when we learn of the Star Wars line of toys made specifically for pets–now available at Petco.
For the piece, The ViTRO Agency called on visual effects house Ring of Fire to create talking pets, bringing stock still images to life via animation. Ring of Fire’s Jerry Spivack creative directed and directed the animation.
Spivack said, “The agency was inspired by an app they found to make your home pet talk. The main challenge was to find the right zone that resembled the app, but translated well to the big screen in a movie theater with a 2k delivery. In the end, we are really happy with the fun and subtle animation style. What’s not to love with talking pets and Star Wars chew toys!”
Created by key frame animating 2D stills in 3D utilizing Maya, the :30 is running before Star Wars: The Force Awakens throughout the run of the film in theaters this winter.
