Cynthia Wade, a filmmaker who won a Best Documentary Short Subject Oscar for Freeheld in 2008 (and again nominated in the same category for Mondays at Racine in 2013), directed this short film via production house Mrs. Bond for Publicis New York. This #EndMommyWars film follows the lives of seven mothers who share their personal stories, get to know one another and in the process let go of judging each other and find a sisterhood in motherhood.
The moving short builds on Similac’s “The Sisterhood of Motherhood,” an unbranded campaign launched earlier this year which championed support, instead of harsh judgment, in the parenting space, leading to the inclusive belief that there’s room for working moms, stay-at-home moms, breast-feeding moms, bottle baby moms, and varied personal decisions on how to best raise kids.
Wade has a track record for presenting dramatically compelling and emotionally moving documentary stories. From tender coming-of-age stories of children for Sesame Street to emotional portraits of teens for the Sundance Channel, Wade has an unusual talent for revealing surprising human moments–with craft and creativity. Wade has earned festival accolades all over the world. In the past four years alone, she’s won 33 film awards, including two awards at Sundance, three awards at Palm Springs, prizes at Aspen and the Hamptons, as well as film festival awards in Spain, Italy, Argentina and Belgium. She’s been making films and commercials for more than 15 years for clients such as MTV, HBO, Cinemax, IFC Channel, and PBS; her clients include Hershey, Bristol Meyers Squibb, the National Guard, Phoenix Children’s Hospital and the Boston Computer Museum.
