Neighborly competition takes on a whole new meaning in a series of ads from agency BSSP and Sunrun, a residential solar company, that promote the money saving opportunities one suburbanite realizes when he has Sunrun solar panels installed on his roof.
BSSP turned to production company Gifted Youth, a division of Funny or Die, and director Jason Winer, who’s helmed the pilot and assorted episodes of Modern Family, for the Sunrun two-spot package which includes “Mother Earth.”
Out on the front lawns of their homes, two neighbors have an every day conversation with starts with one razzing the other over going solo, asking him if he’s going to start wearing hemp shirts or have a peace symbol tattooed on his ankle. The good-natured ribbing continues with the verbose neighbor saying he smells the scent of “Mother Earth” wafting over to him.
In response, the solar neighbor explains that going with Sunrun will save him 20 percent on his energy bill. He further retorts that the scent emanating from him is the “smell of money.”
