Subaru spec project takes 1st place--from both SPW and the Women of Color Commercial Directing Program
By A SHOOT Staff Report
The most viewed videos of 2021 posted to the SHOOT Publicity Wire (SPW) span Subaru spec work that came up a winner in the Women of Color Commercial Directing Program (WCCDP), Jojo & Diplo’s “Daylight” music video, a comedic spot for McDonald’s Indonesia, a piece in which Helena Bonham Carter gets philosophical about finding a sofa you’ll love, and a trailer for the feature film A Beautiful Curse.
The most watched SPW video of 2021 was the alluded to WCCDP winner, Stacy Pascal Gaspard’s Subaru spec project titled “Isadora.” The WCCDP sprung from Paxeros’ co-founders Sean Drummond and Chelsea Bo who sought to fill a void of minority voices in the industry.
The second most viewed entry of 2021 was a real-life Subaru Forester commercial, “A Runaway Canoe,” directed by Luis Gerard via Holiday Films for Toronto agency Red urban.
Taking third place was a Sofology spot featuring Helena Bonham Carter and directed by Chris Cottam (who’s repped by Slash Dynamic) for agency the7stars.
Fourth place went to Jojo & Diplo’s “Daylight,” a music video directed by Munachi Osegbu of VANDAL/LA.
Finishing fifth in our SPW rundown was SAP’s “Dear Business,” a :60 spot–created and executed by full-service creative boutique Kommune|NoSlate–which serves as a thank you note to the business community for its resilience and management acumen in dealing with the challenges of COVID-19.
Sixth place in total clicks for 2021 was earned by the McDonald’s Indonesia comedic :30 “Say it like Perfectly” directed by Kiran Koshy for Leo Burnett Indonesia. The spot was produced by Triton Thailand and Prodigious Bangkok (Koshy is repped in the U.S. by Slash Dynamic).
Settling into the seventh SPW video views slot was a trailer for the feature film A Beautiful Curse, which made its world premiere during the 2021 virtual Cinequest Film & Creativity Festival.
Eighth place in the SPW countdown went to Sisley Paris’ “Izia La Nuit” from writer/director Amaro Shake, with visual effects from women-owned L.A. studio Hunters House.
Garnering ninth place was a New York Festivals-produced video in which David Sable interviews Hilarie S. Viener, CEO of The Genius 100 Foundation US, about the inaugural Genius 100 Inspiration Award.
And rounding out the top ten in our SPW video tally was Cisco’s “The Bridge to Possible: Powering an Inclusive Future for All,” a narrative about technology, ecology, inclusivity and equal opportunity. The little over a minute piece was created via The Hatch, Cisco’s internal agency, and edited by Karen Kourtessis of Union Editorial.
