Little Minx has added director Amandla Baraka to its roster for commercials and branded content. This is the first U.S. representation for the Brooklyn-based, self-taught director.
Having established herself as a fashion photographer, Baraka first made the transition to filmmaking by directing short videos for Pyer Moss, a high-fashion menswear line founded by the Haitian-American designer Kerby Jean-Raymond. “Focus Breathe-In,” a global Adidas campaign, soon followed. Baraka has helmed campaigns for Target, Facebook, and American Express.
Baraka’s work is honest and compelling, providing an energetic and vibrant study of the beauty in everyday life. Through intimate portraits and backstory-laden settings, she conveys the individuality of each person appearing on screen and lends authenticity to every story. Baraka’s work is an homage to empathy, humanity, and curiosity through which she hopes the viewer will find empowerment.
“Amandla has it. We can see it; we can sense it. It’s going to be our job and our honor to develop her full potential over the course of this year,” said Rhea Scott, founder of Little Minx.
“Little Minx had been on my radar for quite some time and when I finally got the chance to meet with the team, I knew it was right,” shared Baraka. “Rhea and Helen (Hollien, Little Minx EP) are fierce and powerful but in a warm way, just like me. I feel honored to have them see my potential and I’m excited for what our union will bring about.”
